Volvo V50 won't crank
I'm looking for some help please.
The car was starting and running, then I parked up, stopped the engine, after about two minutes I want to move the car, the starter clicked about three times, the engine wouldn't crank, only the starter solenoid clicking as it was attempted to crank.
Managed to push start it, drive a few miles, then the battery warning light, power loss urgent service required came on.
The further I drove everything in the dash started shutting down, until the car finally stopped, engine stopped no battery voltage.
Used jump leads to power up the battery, attempted to crank engine, just the click from the starter solenoid, any ideas please?

Normal cheap jumper cables can't provide enough current to start a car with a completely dead battery. Recharge the battery, the car should start and then drive until the battery is dead again - unless you find out why the battery light is on. (battery light means the alternator is not charging)

Hi
thanks for replying, yes that's what happened, I didn't have any tools availableat that time, with some charge in the battery, it bumped started, and no output from the alternator, what I don't understand, is why the starter failed, before the warning charge light came on, unles it was coincidence that the battery was low charge. The battery's on charge, when fully charged, I'll put it back on and see if it cranks.

If you have a volt meter, measure your battery voltage to see if its taking a charge. Its possible it needs to be replaced as well now, particularly if its older than 4 years. What you should see is 12.5+V for a charged battery (12.6V is considered 80%) which should start the car. With the engine running, measure battery volts again - it should be 14V or higher (which comes from the alternator). If the battery measures say 10V - you have a dead cell and it'll need replacing.
