01 V70 Ball Joint Help

2 Attachment(s)
So after reading may threads on how to install lower ball joints I got all the require stuff and started the task. Well everything went well with getting the old ones out but when it came to getting the new ones in I could not get them totally down all the way on the one side. Even after tapping them back out and trying again it would stop at the same spot and would go no further.
Here are some pics of the drivers side which I reinstalled and the passanger side which I still have out. I was wondering if they will work themselves the rest of the way flush or should I just take them somewhere with a press?

Looks like you used the bolts to pull it down. The ears are tweaked now.
If the hole was clean and there's nothing behind it, a rightly sized piece of pipe and a hammer could be used to drive it home. The similarly sized piece of pipe should be used when seating with a press also. Grease in the hole can stop it hydraulically.

Nope I never put the bolts in till it was in the position it's in now. I used a piece of pipe the pound them in and then a brass punch to get them where they are now. I did use some grease as suggested in other threads but what you said about it hydraulically stopping does make sense. I may punch them back out and clean out the grease and try again. I thought it could be an air pocket or something.

Thought I would update after taking advice from ed7. I tapped out the ball joints again and cleaned out the grease that I used based on the how to posts I had read. After cleaning it out both ball joints tapped right in with no problems nice and flush.
