Default 1998 V70 cup holder...Come on, VOLVO!!

I love my new (well, it's new to me...) GLT turbo, but the cup holders are a joke. It looks like they are made for a teeny gargle cup. They will hold a 20oz medium drink, but nothing larger and I sure wouldn't go around a corner without holding it.

What aftermarket options are out there? The door panel is so deep that almost all of the cup holder that hook into the window well just won't work.

I don't mind something hanging from somewhere or sitting somewhere, but I'd rather not attach velcro or screw into something.

HELP!!! Ideas?

Yeah, I've a 98 also and it really is a thing. Be glad they aren't broke--pretty common problem. That little plastic piece for the bottom of the holder breaks easy. It will hold a big drink well if the bottom of the drink cup is the right size. I've several narrow bottom coffee mugs and I just slide them between my drivers seat and the console. Hasn't spilled on me yet. Haven't seen good alternatives short of permanent attachments to the interior.

More ideas?

I've seen this on Amazon:

Octopus Cup Holder

I basically just provides a wider base and apparently doesn't easily slide. But I'm trying to figure out if that space on the center console between the E-brake and the passenger seat is level enough to really just set a cup holder.

All '90 model Volvo cup holders suck. My daughter claims that the holder in the 960 we had caused her to total the car.

I believe they were designed to hold 12 oz cans.

I actually built one out of wood for the S70; works pretty damn well too and doesn't look too bad; painted it same color (as close as i could get..) as the console so almost looks like it's stock. It sits adjacent to the park brake; yes, i did attach w/velcro.

Good with uploading photos? A photo would be priceless! I've got some carpentry in my blood, too.

When my cupholder "fancy" mechanisms broke in various ways, I just used zip ties to create a "wide hole" there using the half of the cupholder that's obvious. worked fine. the cups actually "touch" the center console when I drop them in but no more skinny holders that break just by looking at them..geesh.

I'm gonna try this...can't stomach throwing out $35+ every time the weak little plastic arms crack, which seems to be whenever I try to slide the holder back into the armrest.

I was just in my car and yes the cup holder is made exactly for 12 oz cans, It's a perfect fit. you could maybe fit something taller like a monster energy.
Also I don't know how but my thingy's haven't broken yet.

Yes I just called them thingy's

I've broken a few of the arms, not by placing heavy drinks in there by carelessly (loaded lumber through the rear seat hole and the end of it rested on a bottle in the holder and broke the arms.

I recommend going to a local junkyard and getting a few arms. I've gotten several and they are worth it.

I would love to see a photo of it, just to get an idea of the design of it. Please post one if you can.
