Default 1998 v70 xc (180k miles)

I drove my 1998 v70 xc home with zero problems or concerns, except the "service" light was coming on and off. After arriving home, my wife took the it for a 10 minute drive. When she was pulling into our driveway the hazard lights came on and now it won't start. Super appreciatively, Scott

Default "coming on and off"

Hello, If you mean flashing on and off in a 1 second cycle? It could mean your ECM picked up evidence of a misfire condition. There may be other conditions which cause a flashing Check Engine Light but I can't bring them to mind. You must have the codes read in order to begin solving this problem efficiently. Get your hands on a reader-better yet, buy one. Service stations charge $50 to $75 just to plug one in. You'll pay for yours in no time. Keep in mind that the reader many parts stores keep on hand for thier customers might not connect with a CANBUS system. That was my experience. Also, does your car crank over and fail to catch? ...or does it not crank at all? Kira

Default Thanks George

and Kira,
the engine does not cranks, and I did not pay attention to the on/off cycle of the service light. Thanks for the advise on the reader. ECM in my world means electrically communted motor, what does it stand for in Volvo's world?

Default Ecm

Hello, ECM means Engine Control Module. If your engine doesn't even crank you must start with checking the battery. This is the time of year-first hot days-when they "just die". Kira

Hey Kira, the CEL wasn't flashing the hazards were. They tripped the alarm and the alarm horn wasn't working. It's hard to figure out what's going on when they have a hard time explaining the problem. Blending several issues/symptoms together.
