2001 V70 XC - Need Keyless Entry Remote

Hey I just bought a 2001 V70 XC, and it didn't come with the remote. (I'm assuming that for $36,000, it originally had one). I, like many others, don't want to pay dealer cost to buy one for it, but I'm not sure how to go about buying a used one (off ebay perhaps?) and programming it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately your the 2001 models require an additional pin security code that comes with the remote when you purchase it form the dealer in order for it to be programmed to your vehicle. Even if the dealer looses that paper with the remote the remote is worthless. I have seen a few dealer post remotes on eBay that state that the remote code comes with the remote but all the other auctions are for remotes that have no codes which are worthless. Programming also requires a dealer or a shop that has the Vadis software and interface tool.

Bummer.

Any idea what one costs at the dealer?

I checked a few years ago and recall it was like $150-$200 for a new one :(

Hmmm. Could almost be cheaper to buy an aftermarket one. Or more fun at least. Was Volvo all savy and found ways to make this impossible? Like rigging doorlocks to them and such?

Don't know if Volvos would accept aftermarket devices, but a couple of Christmas seasons ago (2006 or 2007) aftermarket remote door locks and remote starters were the absolute rage here in the frigid MidWest. Every
aftermarket audio shop was pushing these. Never bought one, but I've not heard of fiascos with them or mass failures, break-ins, etc.

Again, no idea if Volvo software accepts this "intrusion" in Volvoworld but it might be worth looking at.
