98 v70 awd turbo 5sp

hey all,

i fell in love with volvos a couple years ago when my parents baught a 98 v70, so shortly after that i started my search for a R but there impossible to find with a manual transmission. so i thought to myself, no two volvos are alike unless by chance, and there are unlimited configurations. so i started searching for something i could use as a good platform for modding down the road and someday have something R-like, so automatically i started searching for 97-99 wagons that were awd with a manual transmission, and the search went on.... couple years went by and now here i amback at it and ive found something that looks good.

a found a 98 awd turbo with a 5sp. silver on black woodgrain power everything racks fogs rims ect.
so obviously this is a car someones configured for themselves cause its pretty loaded and in such a rare configuration.

so i just have a few questions for someone who knows the volvos better than me,

1 what engine could it be? im hoping a t5 but i would think it would be someother lo pressure turbo engine.

2 what are the weak points in the AWD system?

3 are there aftermarket parts available suspension wise for the awd cars?

thanks in advance

RE: 98 v70 awd turbo 5sp

Welcome to the forum.

1. From what I know the Volvo AWD's did come turboed like mine did. However they were the LPT's (Low Pressure Turbos). This isn't bad you can mod them to go faster, etc...

2. Bevel gear I believe goes bad in our AWD cars. TECH if I am wrong please correct me.

3. Yes there are aftermarket parts available suspension wise. But your probably not going to be happy.

a. The rear suspension is Self-Leveling at least in my 99 awd it is. There is nothing on the market to upgrade to for this. You can do the fronts fine. I am talking about Shocks/Struts and springs.

b. You can add upgraded sway bars.

c. You can add upgraded endlinks.

d. You can add a strut brace.
