ABS & STC Light
 

I had someone replace lower control arm bushings in my 2001 Volvo V70 front wheel drive. The car drives perfectly fine, after work was complete I drove the car 130 miles home. However, now the ABS service light and STC service lights appear and are on my message board. My check engine light has also come on. When the Abs and STC lights appear the cruise control stops working. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it a simply reset issue? What happens if I drive with STC off?

You need to rebuild the ABS module, they all crap out at some point, common.

The original poster has some front end work done and immediately afterward his ABS light comes on. Did you think it's possible the tech disturbed a wheel sensor maybe?

Yes, ABS module failures are common on these cars, and it certainly could be that, but considering the circumstances, don't know if I would be that certain.

BTW: the ABS module failure mode is typically broken solder connections where the large electrical connector goes into the ABS module pcb. Ozark Lee did a nice write up on how to DIY repair here:

Your were totally correct. The person I had working on my car really screwed up! I did some reading and found dirty sensors could be the problem. The mechanic dropped the mounting screw for the sensor in the slot for the sensor. I can't believe he let me drive 2 hour knowing he made this error. I took a wire hanger and fished out the bolt which was damaged. After replacing the screw, all lights went off after about 5 seconds. I'm really suprised the screw didn't damage the axle boot. On the up side, the guy replaced my lower control are bushings for 100 bucks on both sides! It just took a day of aggravation, 3 dollars for bolts, and 30 mins of hell. The dealer wanted 700 bucks to replace all bushings, parts and labor. I ordered the bushing from O'reilly's for $100 for all 4. Shade tree mechanic paid ms $30 refund so I'm out $173 total!
