Default Another V70 service question.

Hey All,

Just want a little more input before I put a bunch more money in the car.

I had some weird stalling problems, which was 'fixed' by changing the plugs, distrubuter cap ... new wiring etc. The cars generally been fine, but every once in a while, the car seems to hesitate and idle will drop...and engine runs rough while waiting at lights... it also seems to do this when I'm at lock turning in parking lots.

Just wondering what else could be the culprit of the problem.

Thanks

Hi, I am jumping in too. I have the same car 98 V70 N/A. Mine will hesitate as you partially depress the accelerator. It kind of misses and stutters. If you press the accelerator more, it goes away. It does not do it regularly. Seems to do it more when cold. I had thought the problem was due to a clogged PCV system that was putting oil into the intake. I replaced that and cleaned all the oil from the intake and throttle body. I have been running Lucas fuel injector cleaner about once a month to help clean the valves more. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Perhaps my V70 and BCV70 might have similar solutions.

I've thought it might be the PCV system, which is what I intend to replace... I did try cleaning the MAF ... but still the same results... Maybe needs to be replaced? I'm not too sure.

Hello, 1) Is the throttle body clean? My '99 n/a kept it's TB sparkling clean on it's own. My '02 n/a dirtys up-a dry, hard, sooty dirt. 2) Is your fuel filter "not-clogged". 3) Check or replace every little vacuum hose. Please tell us the mileage of your V70s please. Kira

I'm at 225,000 km... I think it might be the MAF (The tempurate just dropped below freezing in Vancouver, and this is when the car started to really get irritated). I did clean the Throttle body in the summer. I have no clue when the fuel filter would have been done? Is this something a mechanic would look after? Or would I have to ask?

Thanks Kira.

Hello, I don't know the effect cold weather has on MAF sensors. Search MAF sensors on this, the S70,any XC70 or 850 board-they all use the same hardware. Maybe a cold snap is the "straw which breaks the camel's back", especially a 225Kkm old one. The fuel filter is easy to do. It's just ahead of the RR wheel. It would have shown up on the bill. Since you have no clue whether the filter's been changed or not, you're better off replacing it. It could be as old as the car. Are you the original owner? Kira

I am not the original owner- It has had 2 other owners besides myself, (One is my brother) and was leased when new.

Maybe it all comes down to the PCV system... it seems to be puffing a little more exhaust then usually as well. I might just do the whole PCV system, along with the MAF and see if that makes a difference.

My v70 is at 150K. I have done the Tbelt and all tensioners and pulleys too when I did the PCV system. Changing the PCV did stop the smoke in the tailpipe though. The stuttering is very random and only does it at slight accelerator movement, maybe and inch or two pressed down. When it does the stumbling if you press the pedal half way it stops.

Well now mine started running real rough and through a P0303 OBD code: Cylinder 3 mis-fire. I wonder if that is related or another problem.
