Any CV boot fixes?
I heard a click in the front left, backing out of the driveway. I went to work anyways, but the front felt mushy on corners. Turned out to be the sway bar link. Problem is: The bottom of the link popped out of the sway bar and rubbed against the CV boot, splitting one of the seams. Any quick fixes or doI have to pull the front end apart? Thanks, Eric J

RE: Any CV boot fixes?
I don't know of any quick fixes, only replacing the boot.
That sucks man. I tore the boot on my '98 AMG Hummer on my way down to a week long off road gathering. Decided to replace it halfway through the week. Getting mud out of there was a pita. Nick |
RE: Any CV boot fixes?
Nick, Thanks for the bad news. I'll have to order a new one. I know this is a poor alternative, But, Any chance someone makes a 2 piece snap and glue together job for Volvos, like they make for some cars. I couldn't find one on the web. Eric J

RE: Any CV boot fixes?
Once the boot has been open to the elements grit enters and the joint balls have been contaminated necessitating the replacement of the joint................in most instances. The two piece replacement boots that are glued together will fail! If the joint is not scored then it should be cleaned, inspected, and if viable to use, regreased and the new boot installed.
Not an easy fix nor is it a quick repair. r. |
RE: Any CV boot fixes?
FYI:
https://volvoforums.com/m_10964/tm.htm If the joint keeps clicking at turns, don't bother replacing the boots but do the entire CV-joint. Some people seem to replace the entire drive-shaft assembly when the CV-joint goes bad on 850s (and I assume V70 has similar set-up). JPN |
RE: Any CV boot fixes?
This breach just happened, not even any rain since. No clicking, so I'll have to replace the boot. Thanks for the opinions. Eric J

RE: Any CV boot fixes?
Don't forget to pick up some extra grease.

RE: Any CV boot fixes?
CV joint grease is not multi purpose but a special hi temp formulation. If you are going to perform the repair your self it will fail unless the joint is thoroughly cleaned and the proper grease utilized.
