A/C OFF and Reccuring lights flash when starting..
 

Hey there,



Well my beautiful '99 V70 was used for a big air jump a few months ago by a KIA who decided to go to fast during an ice storm (see pics).

I have just purchased a 1998 V70 with a bunch of miles on it but it seems well maintained. Anyway I need to pull my ABS control module and send it to Victor but everything else seems o.k. except....


When i first start the car (in defrost) two lights flash on the Climate Control, one is the A/C Light 'off', the other is the Reaccuring light, for a few moments, then they go out

While the FRESH AIR and AC ON stay lit solidly.

Seems like i am getting good heat from the defroster and good fan strength.

Any ideas?

The lights flashing means there is codes in the climate module.
Might be something as small asthe in cabin temp sensor fan not working.
You will need to have the codes pulled and cleared.

i will do that after i get my ABS mod back, please check back to this thread in a week and ill have the codes.

I think I had that same problem. Try this.

On the dash, below the instrumentation, to the right of the steering wheel, thereis a series of controls; Tracs, Sunroof, Rear Deforst. The last one to the right looks like a louvered grill. This is the culprit. I think it is some kind of airflow sensor.

Try blowing it clear. I think it gets blocked with particulates and triggers something that makes those lites blink. If you blow this clear, your problem may stop. Mine did. I have a 98 V70, and this happened about a year or two ago. I notice I have to do this maybe once/twice a year now. No big deal. Seems to work. Hope this helps. Give it a try and report back.

Tried everything from blowing on it to using compressed air, to no avail. Am replacing ABS mod
in 2 days and will pull codes then. Thanks for the advice, it is appreciated. Im sure it wont be too big a deal, both climate controls work, good heat, fan strength etc, so im not too worried check this thread in a couple days and ill have the codes.

Sorry that didn't work...thought we had it pegged.

Picture looks just like mine. Black is a strong color for this body style. '98 is a good model year for the V70 GLT---'99 on seem to have throttle body problems. This should serve you well. I just turned over 84K miles and hope it lasts another 10 yrs---I am prepared to keep it.

it only does it when its really cold outside like 30F and below, otherwise no blinking while starting?
