Default Cat Codes (and one other)

Hi all,

Have just had my first "check engine" warning light on my 1998 V70 non-turbo. My OBD2 software comes up with a P0420 code which, I believe, indicates a problem with the catalytic converter not operating at proper efficiency. We've recently had some road work done on our entrance drive and the grader operator changed the approaches to a culvert drain pipe which, unless you're really careful, scrapes the underbody on the culvert pipe. My question is, if there's been a bit of damage to the exhaust system from this scrape, would it affect the Cat? Is there any way of checking to see if that's the cause or if the Cat is just getting older. (The car has done nearly 250,000 km).
Also, how can I be sure that it is a Cat problem as I understand that this code can sometimes be triggered by the injectors getting a bit old and worn.
And ( the bonus question), I also got a P1080 code which I can't find a definitive answer for (differing websites and references give differing results!).

Any and all help appreciated.

If you have a vacuum leak it could trigger that code.

Make sure all of your vacuum line are good. Including the one on the end of the intake behind the power steering pump if you have one.

Tech.. thanks for that

Any opinions on after-market (so-called "universal" catalytic converters)? Are they OK to install if mine needs replacment or should I stick with the real deal?

also, in my original question I asked if a bump or scrape to the exhaust system could cause that P0420 - is possible?

I would try to stick OEM.
I doubt the scrape caused the code.
