Default Advice on buying a V70.

It's a 1998 and has 122k miles on it. It starts up smooth, no weird engine noises, no blue exhaust or anything like that, clean underneath, body is good. I noticed two thing that I didn't like though. One was that when I took the oil dip stick out the first time there were some white flecks in the oil but when I cleaned the stick, put it back in then pulled it out there wasn't any flecks. The oil didn't seem really clean but not too dirty either. I also noticed that there was a steady light stream of steam/smoke coming from the dipstick hole, does that mean there could be something wrong internally?

The other thing I noticed is that when I accelerated hard there was slight hesitation then a slight clunk noise/jerk at first. My brother's car had that same problem which went away after a transmission fluid flush in his '94 940. Is that something I should be worried about though?

There is a chance there is a head gasket issue with the car. Check the tail pipe while the car is running or while driving. If there is coolant getting in the oil, it is likely having a head gasket issue or something like that. Usually smoke out of the tail pipe.

As for the smoke out of the oil dip stick, that means the PCV system is plugged up. It's not a real big deal but it does need to be fixed. Shops would charge around $800 but you can do it yourself for under $130.

As for hesitation, a clogged PCV may cause that but clunk and jerks are likely mount problems. The 940 are TOTALLY DIFFERENT cars so please do not compare anything that happens with those models. However, you can check out anything in the S70 or 850's to compare parblems. I'm not sure why the V70 & S70 have seperate section in the forum.
