Disabling Daytime Running Lights

On my 1998 V70, my headlights come on anytime the ignition is on unless you select parking lamps. Is there a way to disable this feature? On my Geo, I was able to fool the DRL module by grounding a wire, but this car is not the same.

I belive on the light switch (left of the steering wheel) there's a small little screw! If the screw line vertical then the lights are off. If they are horizontal then they are off!

Really?

/me runs outside in his underwear to check................

tech Apr 10, 2009 11:57 PM

Did it work?
Was it cold only being in your underwear?

Johnny Mullet Apr 11, 2009 06:33 AM

I turned the little screw, but found I forgot the keys to test, so I will know later.

BTW, 30 degree weather+boxer shorts+leather= cold!

tech Apr 11, 2009 09:49 AM

LOL they should be off now.

Somthngfrce Apr 11, 2009 10:33 AM

I think he froze to death, or got arrested for indecent exposure!

I'd like to know that as well. Man I'd love to power those DRLs off. Is there a screw like that on the V70 as well? damnit I'm going out in my boxers too screw it

Yours is different since it is an 01. His is an older one that has the screw.
Yours the dealer needs to do.

HummerGuy Apr 15, 2009 09:37 PM

Alas, I don't have a screw. Maybe there's some other way of doing it though I'm not aware of on the '01 +

HummerGuy Apr 15, 2009 09:38 PM

OH ok. Let me guess, they have to reprogram something or other right? It's not something you can do by changing the wiring?

tech Apr 15, 2009 09:42 PM

They need to change a setting in the computer.

Johnny Mullet Apr 16, 2009 09:04 PM

Sorry for not updating! I had to wait until Spring thaw to get my nuts off the leather!

The small screw head is right on the headlamp switch on the lower right corner. Mine was in the vertical position. I turned it counter-clockwise to the 10:00 position and the DRL's are now off!

JTapper Apr 16, 2009 09:31 PM

I just chuckled at the fact that you were going out in your boxers looking for a screw.

**This post contributes nothing of substance to the topic**

Cool.... Glad that worked for u!...........

Turning off DRL on 2008 S80

Is this something the dealer has to do for me? Alright...how much? Anyone? Anyone?

Oops...that's a 2006 not 2008.

malaka Jun 17, 2009 06:01 PM

I hate the full low beam DRL's on the 06. Especially since the bulbs are so convenient to replace. Right.

BTW, Johnny, check out this month's Car & Driver. You'll NEVER guess which car they chose to compare against Prius and whatever that new Honda hybrid Prius clone is. Need a hint? Its got a 3 cylinder engine!

Johnny Mullet Jun 17, 2009 08:04 PM

Yeah! I seen that. Pretty cool the underdog is the real winner.

yoyo, I am not sure if your model year has this feature. Do you see a small screw head next to the headlamp switch?
