ETS light Headache..
Hello to everyone.... I am new to Volvo and this forum. I have a 1999 V70 R with 143,000 mile on it. Let me say first she is quite the sweet heart. Now for the bad news. My ETS light is on... The ETM was replaced in Feb of 2006, the software upgrade done in April 06. Just had the accelerator Pedal sensor replaced and now the ETM relay. All the wires check out fine. I need to find diag codes for this little bugger. I am kinda at my whits end here. Dealer says there is only one thing else they can do... Replace the ECM. but I think I have another bad ETM... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. You folks rock with all the great info here....
I am not sure the tech at the dealer said it too fast... P9810 I think... Sorry i cant be of more help... Car will not rev up in neutral... But seems to run fine other wise... Thanks for the response so quickly...
See if you can get the code for me.
Also with the new software the Rev-limiter kicks in alot earlier and in Neutral.
To bad such high milage if it only had 80,000 miles you could have gotten it for free.
The ecm's are warrantied till 80,000.

Ok here is the Info on the Code you have stored.
Sorry no real fault tracing I would pull out the wiring Diagram and start looking at it.
Sorry about the quality I have to take a pic of the computer monitor.

Hope this helps some.

Well Tech thanks... seems like its going to be either the ECM or the ETM Being as though this was just replaced in Feb how do you check to see if it is bad again. Are there any test that can be performed by a meter ??? Also does anyone know if you replace the ECM if it needs to be programed by the dealer ?? Also any ideas as where I can get one priced reasonabley or even a used one ?? Thanks for the info you sent... I'll await your response...
Not that I am aware of for the Testing.
I would Ohm the wires about all I would know to do.
Yes the ECM needs to be programmed by the Dealer.
Most of the time A used one will not program you would have to buy a new one.
Maybe the only other thing I can think of but might be a waste of Money it to try to have a Cheap Upgrade done to your ECM by a place that does the upgrades. Like IPD RICA ETC
You never know it might or might not work.

Dear Tech,
I just purchased a used exact replacement ECU for my volvo V70 R. How do you go about switching this thing ??? Do you have any tips or did I screw up and buy something thats not going to work... If you have an idea of how best to remove the old one and replace the new one please give me your advise... Thanks Todd

About the easiest way is to remove the Box holding the computers in. There should be one screw by the washer fill neck.
Then it should slide off. You might also have to push some clips to get it to slide up.
Then you will see Purple sliders at the base of the computers. They will need to slide one way to unlatch the computer.
Then slide the other way with the new computer in.
