Default Fog lights

So I was driving in the fog a few weeks ago, turned on the fog lights and there was basically no difference regarding sight. So last night I remembered that and tested the fog light in a clear night. It's like only 6-9 feet in front of the car get a bit better illuminated.
Is there some way to adjust the fog lights or are they really more for decoration than use?

I have not been able to figure out how to make my 850 R fog lights usable. Just a waste to me. There is an adjustment under there but didn't help me at all.

All of the fogs that I had in the 740 and 960's were great. Mainly for seeing whats on the edges of the road, like a wide pattern. Not much for down road beyond 30 feet.

Fog lights aren't there to see down the road. There are no "fog piercing lights." Turning up intensity will only decrease visibilty accordingly.
They are, as rspi stated to see the lower corners and edges of the road. Maybe you'd benefit from an LED or HID updrade...

well, that depends on the definition of "down the road". I feel that if I turn on the fog lights I should be able to see a little further in the fog and I've been driving in cars that did just that. But as you said that might work in this case only if I change the bulbs.
