fuel pump?

I am getting a highpitched sound coming from my 2002 cross country and the dealer states it is the fuelpump. Also, that it is normal.I do not believe this to be true. Any suggestions or info?

Is this a sound you hear inside the vehicle or only outside the vehicle. Some fuel pumps do makenoise you notice when standing to the rear of the vehicle when running but I have never heard of a vehicle where you actually could hear the pump inside the vehicle.

Noisey fuel pumps on these are normal and there is nothing the dealer or factory will do for you. to test it, start and run the vehicle, find a quite place in the garage or on a street and close all the windows. now lift up on all four window switches at once for a second. this will load the electrical system and drop system voltage by a couple volts momentarily. this will cause the pump to slow momentarily and therefor change its' tone momentarily.

If this is it, remove the rear seat bottom cushion and shove foam rubber in every hole you see.

Good luck

RE: fuel pump?

Noisy fuel pumps are NOT normal. Excessive noise is an indication of a problem or imminent problem. Take your car to a qualified independant specialist and have it checked.

RE: fuel pump?

The wagons are more prone to hear the fuel pump in because there is not much insolation in them and the noise echoes through out the car.If you complain enough times Ive seen them drop the tank and install more insulation between the tank and the body.
