Default got my v70

alright..i finally picked up my 1998 v70..non turbo 2 wheel drive. Engine seems to run fine so far, no major problems there. On the inside however, I've encountered several issues. I've read on this site that many have had problems with the transmission mode, with the the "arrow" blinking and the "check engine" light on. The lights on the "s" "e" "w" keep blinking back and forth also. I've read someone changed the "GEAR SWITCH" and that fixed the problem. Is that the correct way to solve? Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Yes when that happens most of the time it is the gear position switch (pnp). That is the most common problem with the 850 and 960 models.Once you replace that you will be fine.

Thank you tech for the info..however, after pressing some of the trans mode buttons and leaving it on "e", it nows seems that the arrow is no longer there and only the check engine light is on. I can still use the other modes too. Although I feel alot better now that the arrow isn't blinking or on, I know the check engine light will have to be looked at. Any suggestions, anyone?

-Now my other issue is the rear pass. door. The lock dosen't work. keyless entry will lock and unlock all doors except that one?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

The door lock is bad.You will have to have it replaced. The check engine light will probally just give a code that there is a code in the transmission.Try to just have it cleared and take it from there. If it happens again then replace the PNP switch.

Ok..Just an update...Door lock is fixed..Ordered a new assembly and installing was quite simple. Check engine light is now off due to a faulty throttle switch. Does anyone know maybe around how much it would cost to replace that at a dealer? You guessed it.. I would like to know how much I saved by going to an independant volvo shop. I paid $400 for new throttle switch and new serpentine belt.

The serp belt replacement would be about $140.00 and the throttle positions snesor would be about 1.5 hr labor plus the price of the part. Most dealers are in the $80.00 an hour range.Im happy you got it running good.[sm=smiley20.gif]
