Default I looked at a 2000 V70 today

I am currently looking for a V70 fwd wagon for my paintless dent repair business. I have been looking at 2000 to 2005 model years. Today I looked at privately owned 2000 with 173,000 miles original owner older lady owned car. They were asking $3500.00 for it, I found a few issues with it. The car needs timing belt, coolant hoses, battery, inner tie rod, the steering column has issue the key would not release unless you held the ignition override button on the console in, and the radio would not work because it was on CODE. The outside of the car was a 5 on a scale of 1-10, it had some paint work done and the left rear door gap when closed was about a quarter inch open. The interior was 9.5 out of 10. I offered them $2000.00 for the car “as is”. I guess my question is was I out of line asking them to sell it for $2000.00? I am sure I could fix everything myself except maybe the Key issue & the radio.
They said no but took my number.

I recently bought a 2001 V70 front wheel drive only wagon; but had looked for XC 4wd for quite a long time. My general impression was that there were expensive failures in the XC past 120K miles and since the car was pretty heavy that front wheel drive would be good enough and so far after one realy bad winter I am happy with the 2wd.
I also though the 2.3 to 2.4L engine was way under power for a wagon and looked for and found a V70 with a recent turbo.
That car you found had a good interior but otherwise was not maintained very well from the sounds of things. Count your blessings they passed on your offer because the parts for these cars are expensive. Good luck

I would not have offered any more than that, with that amount of work just not worth the hassle.

Looking at the retail market at Cars.com $2500-3000 would not be out of line for a car rating 6 out of 10.

Fair point, I was only speaking from a personal perspective, my wife also had a v70 estate same as mine and year, it was just a money pit, great looking car but, just one fault after another, but that's the way it goes I guess

I just bought a 2000 V70 with 99,000 miles on her. It bought it from a recent widow. Her husband was the second owner, the car is in great condition & loaded. I just did the timing belt today, easy job I was surprised. I payed $4,000 for it and I think it was a bargain.
