Looking at a 2000 V70, 76k miles - Seems to drive good but here's what I noticed...
1. When slowing to a stop the engine RPM's seem to rise briefly, tranny downshifting?
2. Checked the AC compressor. It blows cold air but the compressor cycles on and off frequently. It was about 30 degrees soutside at the time. Is the cycling expected with the cold ambient temperature?
3. The SER-VICE light is on. Guy at the small private dealership says that is a maintenance light that light has to be reset by the dealer and that it is not a check engine light. Comments?
4. No indication of the timing belt having been changed. (Haven't asked yet).
5. With engine running checked for crankcase pressure blowback through the dipstick tube, none detected.
6. What kind of fuel economy can Iexpect from this car. (2.4L L5 PFI DOHC 20V Front Wheel Drive Automatic)
$9,500
Any input would be great as far as comments on above items and/or other things to check. I'm looking to buy a vehicle for the longhaul. I do all my own vehicle maintenance but am new to Volvo's. I expect 250k miles out of the car, maybe more.

Alittle to high on cost. Offer $8k. Service light is not a check engine light and will come on for a minute when teh cars starts then goes away. it can be reset by the dealer. Should come back on every 3000 miles. I woul just leave it on and not waste your money. You should get about18/25 street/freeway mpg. Dont know about the other 2.

Answers that I have:
2. The a/c will cycle on and off if it low on refrigerant.
3. The service light comes on at mileage intervals according to last time it was reset and by you driving style, severe vs. normal. It can be reset very easily yourself. There are other strings on this forum that tell you how, but if you buy the car and can't find it ask. I will post it.
4. It is earlier than the book says for the timing belt. Usually, it is listed at 105,000 miles. People here recommend, and I agree, much earlier. My point is if the doesn't say it, most people won't spend the money.
6. Mine is a 2002 2.4T V70 FWD auto, I get about 24 city 33 highway. But I drive for economy and use premium fuel with a k&n air filter and good tune up. And yes, I have seen it rise a little with each thing I did.
