Unhappy Main beam switch

Hello I have searched through all the threads and can't find anything so here goes. My first day on the forum and my second day with my 2001 V70 2.4SE Auto with 62K. Bought yesterday with full MD FSH and just 2 previous owners had it 4 hours and the altinator broke! 4 hours on the hard shoulder one day in the garage and £395 later it's fixed. However.. the car is in really great condition but it has the most annoying problem I can't engage full beam as the "stick" won't stay in the full beam position I can feel it fall into both flash and full beam but it's impossible to get it to stay on main beam. I have the onboard computer MPG/Range ect all controlled by the same "stick" how can I remedy this problem ? Do I need to replace the whole thing as I bet that's going to cost me! Be really grateful for some advice, thanks in advance.

Steven

by full beam do you mean low beam, and flash you mean high beam? We may be calling them different things on this side of the pond.

Is the headlight switch turned all the way to the right?
