New Oil Filter too short?

Hi guys. Great forum and great information. I have been lurking for a while since I had little too offer. Well my Volvo finally needs to have its oil changed by me rather than the dealership.

So I picked up the oil and the filter removed the under carriage cover and drained the oil and removed the filter.

I measure the new STP S8217 filter against the old and noticed that it was perhaps 1-2 MM shorter. The Volvo filter has a paper end on each side and the stp has plastic composite of some sort. The STP filter is shorter by about the width of that cap. Is this a problem? The STP filter did have a nice material grommet where the connections are made which I thought may have made up for the smaller size.

2006 2.5T

Oil capacity seems to be 6qt with the filter change? Does this sound right?

Thanks again guys.

I would return that filter and get a Mann filter.
Yes it holds 6 quarts of oil.
