New radiator brand, recommendations?
Hey everyone,
I am ready to change the radiator on my 1998 V70 GLT (2.4 turbo auto). I have been looking online and reading some posts. Besides the ones at FCP and IPD, I have seen some radiators on Ebay. They are not Bher, Cryomax or Nissens, but some other brands; however, they are somewhere between 80 to 100 bucks cheaper. Do you guys have a preferred brand? Should I stick to the ones sold by FCP or IPD? Any pointers you might have are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Robert P.S. Does anyone know of a writeup on changing a radiator, besides the one at Volvospeed? Thanks. |
RE: New radiator brand, recommendations?
I would stick with the Nissens. They seem to fit the best.

RE: New radiator brand, recommendations?
I bought a Bher and put it in but even that wasn't identical to the one in the car. If the Nissen is Cheaper and others are recommending it, that would be my choice if I did it again.

UPDATE:
I called Darrel Waltrip Volvo, and their price for the Volvo brand radiator is cheaper than both FCPGroton and IPD, and it is a dealer part! My local Volvo wanted almost twice what these guys at Waltrip sold it to me for [&:]. In any event, I haven't decided whether I will do this myself or take it to my mechanic. I will report back. |

Good MOVE!!! Please post on the quality of what you got. Was Waltrip Volvo local for you, or did you do this via on line?

RE: New radiator brand, recommendations?
I have heard that you get very good deals at Darell Waltrip Volvo by ordering and having it shipped. Some people on volvospeed buy all there OEM parts there.

I just did a google search and found them. You can get a price quote for a part, but no on line shopping.

Going to put radiator in
Hey guys,
I hadn't had time to change the radiator in my V70. I have finally decided to do it this weekend. Something I was going to comment is that the radiator is not German, but Spanish; for some reason I thought that Volvo radiators were German. Here are some pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink So, on to my next question. I have read and reread the writeup at Volvospeed, and I was wondering if anyone had some pointers or anything that I should do before, during, or after I change the radiator. Is there anything, no matter how small, that might make the job easier? Thanks a lot. P.S. I forgot to ask: the writeup at Volvospeed does not mention removing the fan or the shroud, but my Chilton's repair manual says it has to come off. Which one is correct? Thanks a lot. |
The fan shroud needs to come out.
Just take your time and it will all go well. |
Just did my 95 glt. had to go cheap, got a spectra at my local napa. had to alter holes on one side(too wide) and go in and out a couple times(MUCH easier out the bottom, get the wheels 2" up is enough, and an extra set of hands helps) save your clips on the trans lines and if they don't go back on tight put a ziptie on it. only unplug enough to lay the elecs and fan/shroud on the eng. use your 1/4 inch stuff. will trade labor on your rad. for labor on my pcv. locals only
