New Weird Smell...

I have a 2007 V70 with 66K miles. I did the big 60K maintenance at 58K and regularly get the oil changed (at 3K instead of 7.5K)
This past week, when turning off the car we have noticed a "burning wax" smell when we get out of the car. The car's temp and oil gauge are fine. I had the oil changed 1500 miles ago - this is the first time the smell appeared (I looked at the engine - no spills/overflow) and there is no leak on the driveway
Any idea what is causing this? Someone suggested it is the new ethanol additive in the gas (I live in New England but do a lot of driving between RI and Maryland)
I'm worried that I might be doing something that is hurting the engine
