No heat/Heater control knobs

No heat/Heater control *****
I no longer can control heat with the temperature *****. No heat at all. Also, the temperature ***** only turn about 3/4 of the way clockwise before encountering a resistance. The air conditioner and recirculate buttons work fine. Any ideas what the problem might be?
