Default Random no start

About once a week, my car will start for second and die. If I wait a minute it will start right up or if I turn the key until the gauges light up, 5 times (1,2,or3 won't help) it will start right up. Anybody else have the same issue or have the sulution? Thanks

Any message in the window when it won't start?

Not that I've noticed. I've turned the key off as soon as it stalls. Am I missing a warning light or code ?

Any Gas smell?
If it is an immoblizer problem it would say start prevention try again in the little window.

No gas smell. I hadn't even considered antitheft malfunction. I'll leave the key on and look for 'start prevention try again' next time.
I guess your talking about the clock/trip computerwindow?

Sorry though the car was newer.
Yours might not have anything to alert you on your car.
Do you have an OBDII scanner?

Usually if it is random like that you would need to read the codes only when it doesn't start.
Once it starts then the codes go away.

OK, that would explain why it didn'tgive a related code. It didsend a 1081. hopefully due to an exhaust pipe leak that just started.

Here is what the Dealer will tell you/do if they get a code.
They will first reccomend an antenna ring(light around ignition lock assembly)
Then reccomend a new key or to use spare key.
Then reccomend replacing the Immoblizer.

Thanks Tech, I’ll try one of my spare keys first. Good timing too, because, this may coincidence or the cooler weather, but it’s happened 3 times in the last 24 hours !

Just checking back, I've been using a different key and it has started right up ever since. Thanks Tech.

I was having similar problems and just thought I'd share some possibly helpful info.

I bought my 2000 V70 in May of '07. After about a month it would fail to start sometimes. I'd turn the key, it would crank all day, but would start. If I turned the key to the run position 2 or 3 times without trying to start, then actually tried on the 3rd or 4th time, it almost always started up. I thought maybe a leak in the check valve of the fuel pump? Brought it to the shop for a tune-up so I had them look for that, turned out that wasn't it. I did a little research on here and read about the antenna ring/key communication issues, so I tried flipping to the key 180 degrees if it didn't start on the first try. That worked for a good long while until the other day when it took 4, 5, 6 flips of the key to get it to run. I also noticed that my red flashing anti-theft light went through 15 short flashes when it would fail to start this last time or two. Looking at the owner manual, it said "Bring to volvo dealer ASAP", so I did as told.

Long story short, I brought it to the dealer, the antenna ring was shot. They put a new one in, about $250, and I was on my way. Been workingfine ever since.

I'm sure I could have done it myself, butwithout a repair manual (haynes, chilton, etc.) I just don'tfeelconfident, especially since this is my daily driver (No manual for '98 on - WTF?). I'd hate to get halfway through a project only to hit a dead end and have no guidance on how to "put Humpty together again".

Hopefully this helps some of the "no starts" out there.
