throttle response???
 

hi all im new to volvo,s and have got my self a 99 model v70 awd 2.5 lpt auto and i have what i think is a poor throttle response on any thing less than half throttle.
i have phoned volvo customer service and they say its had the software update.
my question is this. is this a fault or just a characteristic of these cars?

Has the throttle body been cleaned lately?
If not or not sure have it cleaned and see if it helps.
Is the check engine light on?

no there are no lights on as for being cleaned out im not sure so will give that a try.
forgot to mention its done 96k miles if that has any bearing on it

99 ETM and you just don;t go out and 'clean" an ETM like that.
There are meany factors;
1: these cars are heavy and not all THAT responsive to start with but...
2: There are many things to look at at 100K miles, (just about everything).
A tune up, adjust the wastegate, the PCV (breather boxmay be clogging up and yed the ETM is a possibility but if it's smooth I would rule that out for the moment.
The list is endless, it depends on how much you want to spend. :eek:

I've had great luck lately using SEAFOAM engine cleaner.
A bottle will cost you about 9 bucks, do it right, follow the instructions(and change the oil right afterwards).
Thelast two cars I used this product came ALIVE including my excellent 2000 V70R, whichjust gained a HUGE amount of low speed grunt after Seafoaming and not much else was done.
My boost went upby 2 lbs across the board, (I have a gauge)don't ask me why but the tech couldn;t believe how much power and responsiveness we gained.
Adjusting the waste will also help, you need to shorten the rod by about ONE TURN, no more.

i dont think its the weight of the car thats the problem as its not what i would expect it to be like when blipping the throttle when stationary. feels like the connection betwwen pedal and throttle body is elastic lol [yes i know its electronic]
a boost gauge was going to be my first mod so will get that on the car and see what its boosting too as well [as i think it is slightly down on power too] before i adjust any thing.
while on the subject of power whats the most cost effective way to safely increase it?

You're not listening, you have to get your car at stage 0 first (search that)
then...
do whatever is necessary and a modded ECU is the best way to get the most gain.
A modified ECU on a LPT engine plus some minor tweaking and adjusting, (such as the wastegate adjustment) can make it a stormer off the line with TONS of low end torque.
BTW, that's the way they (99 and newer Volvos feel) a numb, rubberythrottle response in general
