D5 Smoke and Noise from Oil Filler
Hi everyone,
I have a Volvo D5, which in genral is running well, however when I remove the oil filler cap when the engine is running I get alot of white smoke and there is a dull thud noise, which seems to be linked to the movement of the Cam. Press the accelerator and the frequency of the noise increases. Replace the oil filler cap and the noise disappears.
Apart from this, the car is in good condition and well maintained, it has recently had a full service and a new intercooler.

Anyone any ideas what is the cause?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi
I found this issue in two car already a V40 d3 2012 at 80K milage and V70 d5 d5244t5 Mk3 2008 at 146kmilage. Both if you remove the oil filler cap hear like something loose inside the metal sound a bit loose or something. I put Wynns Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment in both engines the noise after was a little bit reduced. Both cars are running fine no problem with the performance or any the service light on the dashboard or stored dtc in the ECM,
I want to check the brake vacuum pump and pcv membrane.
