Red face V70 (2000) Starting Problem

I have a V70 (2000) non-turbo, automatic. It now has 152.000 KM. In the recent months I have experienced the following starting problem.

As I turn the key to start, the vehicle starts and stalls within a split second. I keep trying for 3 to 4 times and it does not fire at all. I then wait for a couple of minutes and try. Then it starts. Once it starts it does not stall.

This happens sometimes first thing in the morning, at times in the afternoons on my way home from work, and at times if I stop on my way to shop, when I get back to the car it woud not start. After trying a few times if it does not star, I wait for 2-3 minutes and then it starts.
No specific warning light has been on the dash.

This morning I decide to use my V70 to go out after about 7 days. It started in my first attempt, I drove about 1 mile and stopeed at the bank. When I got back I could not start it. I then attended to a few other matters in the mall and got back to the car about 45 minutes later and it started in the first attempt and I was able to get home.

I have been reluctant to take it to the Dealer as it may not reoccur while the car is there. My other concern is avoiding having to fix the problem through the process of elimination by replacing costly parts.

Can it be the fuel pump? Fuel pump relay? Temperature sensor?

This happend once last July and did not reoccur until last month.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Basil G

Sounds like an immoblizer or key problem.
