V70 - Sputtering & Burning Oil

Hi Everyone...first time poster. I looked in the histroy and could not find anything on what has been going on with my 1999 V70. It's about to hit 200K and the old girl looks to be telling me that it's feeling its age. The other night it started sputtering/shaking at low RPMs and the CEL started blinking. I know that normally means a miss-fire, but can someone confirm that. Would a mis-fire also cause a weird smell from the exhaust?

If that is the case, would this mean I have to change the engine coils? Anything else?

Secondly, I have been burning oil ever since I took ownership of this car - 50K ago. I thought that is normal, but I juat wanted to make sure with you guys.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Rudy and welcome to the forum.

You will have to get the codes read at a parts store, mechanic shop or get a reader and pull them yourself to figure out why the car is missing.

As for your oil situation, what do you consider burning oil? How much is being used per 1,000 miles?

Thanks...ended up changing the ignition coil which was much easier then I thought. Resolved the mis-fire issue. As for the oil issue after 3K miles I find that I lose about 1-2 quarts. When the mis-fire started I lost even more. There must have been a link...but that is just a theory. Regardless it is either losing or burning oil somewhere. Any thoughts?

Thanks for responding to my post.
