Valve Body Replacement - To Flush or Not To Flush
I have the typcial transmission issues with V70's. The symptoms are reduced with new fluid and Trans Tune. The harch engagement after coasting is driving me crazy....I have been dealing with this for three years and would just like to enjoy my vehicle. So I have found a place that sells rebuilt valve bodies for $550 plus shipping and I have also found the instructions to do the replacement which does not appear to be that bad. So off I go.
My question is this.....prior to replacing the valve body should I go and have the transmission flushed with one of the power flushers at the oil change place so that all the gunk is stirred up and hopefully removed. I don't know if stirring things up and flushing is problematic for the entire transmission of just the valve body. Also has anyone replaced the valve body themselves, and if so would you share your experiences? Thanks, Brent |
I replaced the valve body on my V70 a while back. It helped a lot. I just did the standard flush after installation where you put one cooling line in a bucket then pump 2 quarts at a time until new fluid comes out. I don't think there is a need for a "power flusher". Just let the tranny do the work.
I found this article that explains how you need to adjust the solenoid tension after installation. This involves a bit of of modification to the cover plate that will allow you to plug and unplug some access holes. I would first replace the solenoids not the entire valve body.
