"heavy" steering is somewhat subjective so unless you can test drive another similar year XC60 for yourself, its going to be hard to answer. What you can do (other than search Autotrader for a different XC for sale near you) is make sure the car has a correct alignment (get the print out and consider using a dealer who will spend the extra time to bring the alignment to a sweet spot), has correct tire pressure (I generally go 3 PSI above what the door/fuel filler label suggests for pot hole defense) and correct tire size and wear. Most shops doing a full 4 point alignment will inspect the suspension and brakes for wear or damage so make sure you ask about that up front.

I have a 2010 XC60 D5 and my steering is heavy also. I think it's just the nature of the beast. Bloody annoying really.
