2012 XC60 Rear Supension Noises?
Hi all,
Hey, I am considering purchasing a 2012 XC60 T6 AWD with about 130k on it, the rear suspension sounds like there is a bird stuck in there somewhere! What has been you guys' experience with this? Just wondering what I'm up against if I purchase it...
Thanks! 👌

a high pitched sound suggests there's some metal on metal contact. Bushings in control arms and trailing arms that pivot have a metal sleeve that rides on a mounting bolt so you should be able to spray in some WD40 or similar to see if that quiets it down. I've never had a bushing make noise- usually its the rubber that fails and creates play. I have replaced 3 of 4 springs on my son's S40 - all with a cracked end point, and those made chirpy noises. The replacement for spring #4 is riding in his trunk :-)

Rear Suspension squeak
I too have 2012 XC60 3.2L AWD, bought used, that developed an annoying chirp/squeak that sounded like it was coming from the rear interior passenger side.
I first thought it was one of the rear shocks, cheap enough and easy enough to replace and would need to eventually anyway. NOT THE CHIRP THOUGH.
More investigating, found the Right Trailing Arm Bushing being the culprit.
Volvo asks a pretty penny due to they will remove the trailing arm, press out the old bushing, press in new, and re-assemble, then need an all wheel alignment. $1300-$1500 for them to do it.
I found a replacement bushing set from FPC Euro that is a more expensive bushings but I did not need to remove the trailing arm and therefore no alignment and no press for installation.
I replaced both rear bushing but only one was bad. $215
Enough youtube videos are out there for reference.
I have a cheap Habor Frieght bearing press that I used to press out the old metal bushing ring, which worked great, else you would have to cut the ring as done in some videos to get it out.
First side took about 4 hours, second side about 2.5 hours. Learning curve for the first side. Ty wraps were a great help for installing the FPC bushing.
