I have a new 2017 XC60 and the heated seats are barely warm on the highest setting. All of our previous Volvo's had heated seats and they were all very warm. I would also like to find out if there is a way to make them warmer.

Are the seats regular leather or the perforated leather, nappa?

The seats are leather and are the standard sport seats that come in the 2017 XC60 T5 AWD Dynamic. I had a service appointment at the local Volvo dealership and they changed the heated seat settings from the factory default setting to the highest heat setting via their computer. It did make a difference in the amount of heat felt in the heated seats but they are still not as hot as any of the previous Volvo's we have owned. It seems like Volvo has toned down the amount of heat that is available on their heated seats. I'm not sure why they may have done this but I wish they hadn't.

I'm wondering if the reduced heat is due to the regular leather being thinker than the napa leather and the lack of the perforation???
The other reason might be Volvo is concerned with the risk of fire.
I have not used the seat heating of the XC60 we rented during our Scotland trip.
However, I'm anxious to get my 2018 XC60 in October to see how well they will work. Nice to know that the heat level can be tweaked by the dealer, if required.

Of the five Volvo's we have owned with heated seats the 2017 XC60 is the only one where we thought there wasn't enough heat on the highest setting. All of our other Volvo's had leather seats that were not perforated as is our 2017 XC60 so I don't think it has anything to do with the type of leather. As you mention it is probably some sort of safety reason with Volvo and they decided to reduce the amount of heat in their heated seats. The 2018 XC60 has completely different seats than the 2017 XC60 so they may use a different heating element as well. Hopefully your new 2018 will have better heated seats.
