Hello All.
So, I JUST got a lease on a new 2021 XC60 T5 Inscription and have had it for a little over a month now and while at Home Depot had a bad run-in with a truck who had a 12" 2x4 sticking out of the back of their truck and was in my blind spot and backed right into it.
IT cracked the cover of the Rear Taillight but nothing else.
Rear Taillight Cracked and Rear Taillight pieces
Now I could take this back to Volvo but I know it would be VERY expensive to get done, so was hoping it would be fairly straight-forward to swap out myself.
I found the part number: 32228915 which is the replacement number for 31420428.
I found a color representation of it here: GetOEMParts Tail Lamp - Volvo (32228915)
and the Volvo part for it here: Volvo XC60 Right Tail lamp | Volvo OEM Part Number 32228915 (volvocarparts.info)
My concern here is that the parts look the same, but the years show 2020 and not the 2021 year, since it is so new the parts aren't out there marked for this year yet.
Is this part the same part for the 2021 year? It doesn't look that hard to swap out from what I can tell, but don't know if there were changes to the 2021 model that would cause issues.
Or do I just suck it up and take it to the dealer to get replaced at probably 10x the cost of the part itself.
Thanks in advance,
Nathan

So, just took it in to dealer.
part number was slightly different (31655359) but they said it was the same part.
However it cost me $420 for the part and $480 for labor for an hour. Plus taxes and disposal fee made it a little over $1000 to change it.
So not 10x, but close to 5x what I could have just gotten the part for 3rd party.
For some reason though, they had to drop the bumper to replace the taillight so I wouldn't have been able to do this myself which is why it was so expenaive. Seems like an odd design.

What dealer is that? There's no way a dealer in the US charges $480 an hour. You got overcharged.
The bunper does have to be partially removed. The labor time is 1.7 hours for the job. Even if they charged 2 hours, thats $240 an hour which again is likely the most in the US. The invoice should show their hourly rate.

I called to confirm and talked to the support manager. They bill it based on the time allocated to a specific job. So a replacement here (listed as 2168 CPA - 478.58) is the labor cost to do this job. So even though it was allocated at 1.7 hours and it was completed in an hour, they still charge the cost of the actual job not how long it actually took. It typically would have taken longer, but I guess they had an apprentice working with the technician and together got it done in under an hour. This billing does protect those where the technician would take 3 hours to fix due to something happening and they would still only be charged 2 hours for it. I am just in one of those exception windows. That has been my luck recently anyway with this stuff.
Thanks for the feedback though.
