Default First time Volvo owner, basic question

Hello, just recently got a 2020 XC60. I have never owned a Volvo before, and so far, love the car. I have a very basic question: My wife typically locks the car using the button lock on the inside door, near the handle. On her previous cars, even with the door open, pressing the lock button would lock all the doors and she could them shut the front driver door after she exited the car. We cannot get that to work on the XC60. The inside button lock does lock the car, but only if the doors are closed, and everything unlocks when she opens the front door to exit. Locking the car with the remote works fine.

I suspect we missed a setting or are doing something wrong here. Can anyone explain how to lock the doors using the inside button lock?

Thanks

When all the doors are closed just touch the small sqare indentation on any of the door handles to lock the doors.
