Mpg
Hi All, First I would like to introduce myself my name is Roger, and Im looking at buying a 3month old XC60 2ltr Momentum
what I would like to find out is what is the average TRUE MPG I should expect.....Call me synical but I don't believe what the manufacturor's claim.
I've got a Peugeot 508 SW they claim 61mpg combined but in reality over the 27,000 miles I've covered the average is 45.6mpg.
Hope you can help.
Thanks
Roger

true MPG will really depend on how you drive - ie mix of highway and city? Are you passive or agressive? The factory ratings are done in a lab environment but should be reflective of a range. The XC60 states "up to" 23 city/31 highway" which would suggest something in between, but I'd say its realistic. My VW CC is rated at 22 city/31 highway (also a 2.0 turbo) and I get 25 day to day with a mix of city/highway and can see 32-33 highway when cruising at 65-70. I'd expect something slightly less from the XC60 due to the AWD and bigger frontal area which would say 30-31 highway is spot on.

Hi Roger. From your post it appears you may live in the UK. We live in upstate NY near Lake Ontario. For a comparison we live in a much colder/snowier environment then what you may experience (not to mention our gallon is different from yours). We also have true snow tires installed during the winter. We have owned the car since June 2017 and if you take a look at: red retirement beauty (Volvo XC60) | Fuelly You will see our true mileage. At the bottom of the page you can also view other Volvo's and may even be able to see ones closer to where you live. As a warning don't believe all the data, as some people (including myself at times) enter the data incorectly and don't correct it so the average is skewed.

Hi Our Volvo....Thanks for replying yes your right I do live in the UK...............The reason I'm asking this question is because I'm thinking of changing my motor and I don't want to spend a lot of money and then get under 45mpg, yes I know there a lot of cars out there do do a lot more but I like large cars and need a good size boot I've had estate cars for the last 10 years but fancied something a little taller (SUV)......I'm somewhat **** about fuel consumption I use a app called Road Trip to record all my mileage and fuel its works it all out for you......I've 4 motors my main one is a Peugeot 508SW over the last 27,000ml the average is 45.6mpg.......Triumph Stag 20,214 ml average 28.47mpg........Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 5.562ml average 12.96mpg....Peugeot 308 55mpg....The official figures for the 508 are 61mpg but it only gets 45........the figures for the XC60 are 54mpg but in reality how much lower is it going to be??

I believe that in the UK the gallon is an imperial gallon, not a US gallon. The imperial gallon is bigger. Therefore, if you use the imperial gallon, you will have bigger MPG compared to the numbers you are seeing here (USA).
Make sure that you are clear about the numbers you are looking at.
