Knowingly taking on an 2011 XC60 T6 w/ oil consumption - 148k miles
Hey guys - in a bind. My wife has a 2007 Volvo S40 2.4i that just lost compression in #4 at 180k and has TONS of blow-by and we're not trying to take on a car payment right now. We just had the PCV box replaced as the signs suggested that was failed, but after replacement the compression issue was discovered. She needs a car and drives about 18 miles round trip to work.
Ironically, my wife's father is trading in his 2011 XC60 T6 sometime this month on his newly arriving XC60. It's been a religiously maintained car at the original purchased dealer which is local to us all. For the last few years, the car has been using oil as is known to be an issue with the T6 in the XC60 and S60, etc. The car has 148k miles on it and he's actually even taking it in Saturday for the 150k mile service even though he's trading it very soon thereafter - that's the kind of caretaker he is of his car.
We know that it consumes oil - the dealer did the whole pcv, valvecover, etc. etc. stuff. They, I suppose, determined that the oil consumption was not at a rate high enough to replace the pistons or engine while it was under warranty/extended warranty. I don't think the oil consumption is offensive, maybe 1Q or 2Q per 7-10k miles per my father in law.
If we were able to work out a reasonable deal on the car, should I be able to get a couple years out of it? I know that no one wants a car that consumes oil, especially new/in-warranty, but at 148k miles it hasn't seemed to get any worse and so is it reasonable to assume it'll just continue life until something more serious happens?
Thanks all!
