XC60 CPO extended warranty price

Went to a local dealer for a 2015 xc60 cpo T5 premier plus,FWD, 60k mileage. for a 19k price tag. The cpo warranty only has 10 months left. Should I buy an
extended warranty for another 3 years to up 8 years? The dealer quotes a $3400 for warranty with $100 deductible. Is this one too expensive?

extended warranties are insurance policies which are based on actuarial tables. The product takes an estimate of the typcial repair costs over the policy period and then creates a price (with profit) that anticipates a typical cost to the owner. So the question becomes what is covered by the policy and what are the odds of your car needing repairs totalling more than $3400 and whether there is a mileage cap which will limit your coverage duration. Basically you are wagering your car will need major repairs during that window - so what I'd do is search for some independent research (like Consumer Reports) on the problem areas and repair costs particular to the 2015s. My personal opinion is this is a big cost and you can fix a lot of common issues for less than 3400 assuming you will do 60K miles over the next 4 years. Most cars at 120K miles don't need big ticket fixes.

Just to add--warranty is based on actuarial tables AND PROFIT. Shop around and you may find for the exact same Warranty an enormous price difference based on how much profit the Dealer may try to get. Some dealer bargain down when negotiating
