XC60 gear change problem mysteriously goes away
hello sorry this is bit long. but hopefully interesting
has anyone else had a similar and mysterious problem with gear selection on their xc60? (that strangely disappears) and is this something that the car is known to suffer from?
after 3 months driving my 2017 (35,000 miles) manual, I was having real trouble finding the right gear ( ok when doing straight forward up and down the gears - but when something else ie changing down more than one gear for a roundabout - selecting the gear was pure and often wrong guess work - I managed to stall on an empty roundabout ( luckily ) as I was in completely the wrong gear.
here's the weird bit
- took the car To my nearest dealer under warranty. they had it all day and said two mechanics had driven it with the engine hot and cold. they found nothing wrong with gear selection. kindly they waived any charge as they knew I was unhappy and the car had had no ramp time. this is where I think it gets a little strange. returning the car the manger explained to me in a friendly way how all cars drive differently, how my previous car ( Audi A4) had a different gear box set up (plus how on mercs and minis gear changing is different again) etc . basically he said that as I was new to the car ( although I had driven it for 3 months with no gear cage issues) I would have to adapt my driving style and get used to it
but since then - only once have I miss geared it - though I am being extra careful chasing gear - but the issue seems to have completely disappeared and the selection feels like it did when I bought the car. so I'm wondering... did the garage make some adjustment or fix something and then not tell me ? but why would they do that? instead of fixing under the warranty and telling me they'd found a minor problem but its now all fixed. I'm just worried that the problem returns when it's out of warranty.
any thoughts? should I be worried? thanks

what do you mean "finding the right gear"? Do you have a manual or are you saying you don't always find the right selection when shifting the auto or are you saying the automatic seems to hunt for the best gear?
hello. its a manual. and the problem is in (potentially dangerous) situations when approaching a roundabout in 5th and wanting to go down the gears feel soupy and it's hard to find the right gear -so I might put it in 2, 4 or 6
so I dont approach roundabouts with much confidence - the problem may have come back a bit I'd really like to know what it might be so I can get it fixed
