Is the XC60 Start/Stop Battery Necessary?
My wife and I have a 2017 XC60, and the time has come to replace the batteries. We have already replaced the main battery with a Varta battery, but we are having a difficult time finding a replacement start / stop battery here in Penang, Malaysia. My question is: is the start / stop battery strictly necessary if we do not use the automatic start / stop function? Will the start / stop battery corrode or otherwise cause problems if we do not replace it? Thanks for the advice!

Did you ever get an answer to this? I've been wondering this myself for a while now, mostly because my wife and I don't care for the start/stop feature.

Any of the users here having your Volvo being recalled over the brake system issue? I'm still trying to figure out if mine is. As I did encounter few occasions of stiff brake pedal.

Dead 12 v battery in 2023 Recharge
I have a 2023 XC 60 recharge. After 2 days not driving over Thanksgiving and traction battery charger plugged in for 2 days, I tried to drive and 12 V battery dead. After reading this thread (thank you responders and authors), I realized I could jump the 12v battery. Easy to do after finding out where + and - terminals were under the hood. They are marked if you know where to look. Car started immediately.
Welcome to the world of multiple computers and software problems. Volvo is no exception. I think my software is up to date but glitches still obviously remain. I will probably need a service call but I think dealers are befuddled about software issues and will just extinguish the “propulsion system needs service” light which automatically popped up and send me on my way. Here are my observations after drilling down into this problem 1. Leaving the charging system plugged in for multiple days without driving may override a protection circuit. My traction battery did not fully charge and my charging circuit was not functioning. My Volvo iPhone app was disconnected which indicated the 12 v battery was dead. 2. People have commented that the charging system for the traction/propulsion battery will automatically charge the 12 v battery. Not so if the system disconnects. 3. What causes the discharge and disconnect of the 12 v system? People have indicated that it could be a malfunction of the shark fin antenna on roof. I think that is not the problem. My car is garaged and so not water seepage issue draining batteries. Again, probably software issues maybe caused by leaving charging system plugged in too long. 4. 12 v system can be jumped to restart. After jump, I drove the car for about 5 miles to make sure it was sufficiently charged and functioning. I then plugged the car back in and checked my Volvo app periodically to see if it was charging correctly. It did and car started perfectly next morning with full charge in traction battery. I believe the software “rebooted” after 12 v discharge and now is functioning normally. 5. I am talking to my Volvo service department to see if they have a fix. Again, I think it is a software issue and the system rebooted after discharge and reconnect. Volvo will probably not give me a hardware fix but if they give me a satisfactory answer I will repost on this thread. Final observation: Don’t leave your charging system plugged in beyond 12-15 hours. Overcharging May override a protection system in the 12 v system and cause discharge. |
What I suspect is, when the car is parked at a place which the Telco signal is weak, the TCAM may drain the 12V battery, but a newer version software may have fixed the glitch. What I'm doing now is to turn off the network connection when I have to park the car for more than 2 days. Not sure it helps but not facing the same issue after a year.

Can you explain how you Turn OFF the network system ?
