2005 Volvo XC70 HU850 popping noises
 

hi there,

i have a strange issue with the HU850 radio in my Volvo XC70 (2005). it started a little while ago now, where it would start making popping noises. doesn't matter if the car is stationary, or going over bumps, it just happens intermittently.

recently however it had started to effect the volume of the radio, occasionally becoming inaudible, and then super loud. and occasionally a really loud BANG will be heard from one of the front speakers.

just wondering what you guys think it might be? These noises happen even when the radio is turned off. but i have not tried it external to the car, or with the fuse pulled. so the radio could just be in "standby" with the amplifier turned on.

any idea what it might be?

The HU-850 of my XC70 (2006) has since a couple of days the same problem. I went to a Volvo dealer and they checked for error messages. No messages found. So they expectet that the underseat amplifier or wiring is faulty. I took the car home to avoid high bills. This weekend I removed the amplifier and checked the wiring.
The fault is still the same without amplifier, just the popping sound is comming from the center speaker and occasionaly the radio works fine for a couple of minutes. My conclusion so far is that the fault must be in the HU-850 head unit.
In this other forum someone sortet it out with soldering some connections in the head unit.

I have the same problem.
 

Hi there I have the same problem it must be a common fault. Has anybody any idea how to fix it short of a radio replacement. Also I have a hu650 unit could I install that without any issues.
