Default 2015 power tailgate

...a first question from a newbie....My xc70 power tailgate always unlocks and opens as it should. Once open, it usually closes using the push button on the tailgate. If I try to close from the dash or FOB, I hear a clicking sound as if it wants to close. It is as though there is
some kind of clutch that is disengaging. I have not a good repair book. Could anybody talk me though dropping head liner to see what is happening? Or could it be that tailgate is opening too high? ... some other easy fix?

Check your owners manual to see if it has that closing function. Mine only power closes via the tailgate button.

I did as you suggested. Tailgate should open with button next to headlight switch as well as the key FOB. I tried to adjust the tailgate to a different opening height, but problem persisted I did learn two things...Volvo tailgates have pinch protection{what sounded like a clutch to me} and the sound tells me the problem is not in the overhead, but in the tailgate itself.

Asking for guidance again. My power tailgate opens as it should{from dash/ from key FOB} It will not close from either of these ways. It closes correctly only from tailgate button.
What would cause both key FOB and dash switch to trigger pinch protection?.....tries to close but immediately goes up a minute amount. Shed your wisdom on me, pretty please.

The tailgate will open automatically with the key fob or dash button, but it does will close using them. Unlike other brands, it was designed that way as a safety feature. That’s just the way it is. The sound you hear is just the latch or motor trying to open it again. See this video. It discusses the limitation and how you can install an aftermarket module to automatically close the tailgate from the fob or dash. As stated in the video, read the video description to contact the vendor.

Are there any American suppliers for this 2.4 tailgate module? I only saw one supplier on eBay, and the guy/gal was from Russia. Anyone already do this modification in the USA/Canada?

You’re welcome.

The guy who made the video is in Canada. His user name is Volvosweden and can be contacted through his channel. He provided the vendor information in the video description.

You're right...brain fart{they come more often in one's 70{s} Thank you. I did remember seeing this video, but I had preconceptions. At first I thought he was installing a power mechanism, obviously he is not. I could not conceive that Volvo engineered this on purpose.

No worries. We all have ideas how things should work even when they don’t.

For anyone interested, version 2.4 has added a beep tone. Instructions are in Russian, German and English. Will work on the following:

- Volvo XC70 2008-2017
- Volvo V70 2008-2017
- Volvo XC60 2008-2017

Price is $70 euro. Shipping from Russia to US takes 2-3 weeks and costs 10 euro. Email: moduleorder@gmail.com. Be sure to include your VIN so they can send you the right part.
