ABS and Traction control lights on

Hello,
I have a 2000 XC70 with 120k miles. Since last few weeks, the abs and traction control light up toghetherand they dissapear toghether after a few days. I scanned the OBD II codes and there's nothing. Could someone explain me why is this happening?

Regards,

Radu

Your generic OBDII scantool will not read chassis codes, it will only read powertrain codes.

Hi Radu,

The ABS control unit had problems on the first generation XC70s. Our 1998 developed the same issues. The failures will become more and more frequent until the unit will just not function.

Here is a website from a place that sells rebuilt units:

They also provide some pictures so that you can replace the unit yourself it you're so inclined:

I decided to get mine from my local dealer, and after purchasing a set of Torx sockets (I didn't even know they made them), I was able to replace the unit myself.

Just a warning, these units are not cheap. I don't know what a dealership would charge to replace one.

Good luck,
Bill

Sound to me like your ABS unit is definitely going wonky.
