bi-xenon headlamp ballast on 2004 XC70 wagon
Headlamp out on 2004 XC70. Bi-xenon.
Volvo technician says bulb is OK...it's the ballast that is bad. $600 Volvo part. Ouch! Plus it is hard to get to...3 hours labor. Total job quote = $900 - $1,000 Double ouch! Is there a way out? Is there a non-Volvo ballast that will work in the XC70? That I could have a local garage guy do? $1,000 is more than I spent on my first car! Any suggestions welcome. |
RE: bi-xenon headlamp ballast on 2004 XC70 wagon
My wife bought an '04 XC70 a few months back. As soon as I saw the price of the xenon bulbs I thought that I'd likely downgrade to halogen the first time 1 goes. $135 for a bulb! Ridiculous! Now I just have to figure out how to do it. I feel your pain, but xenon is not worth the price. A good halogen system with good lenses is as good as a road car needs. My only other Volvo (1985 245DL) had the 4 sealed beam set up and I've never been in a car with better headlights. Save your money.

check fleabay, I see them on there all the time. I almost bought a set of factory volvo HID's there, but for the price it was cheaper for me to purchase an aftermarket kit. If you find one and need help with the install, PM me and I can e-mail you the instructions from Volvo's VADIS system. I just need the year, model, and engine to look it up.
