Brake Failure Indicator
I own a 2002 Volvo XC70 that I plan on selling this weekend and all of a sudden the brake failure messagecame up on it. I checked fluid level and it's good. I checked brake lines, and everything looks solid. Anyone knows what this is all about. The message comes and goes also. Please assist.
Thanks, Rob |
RE: Brake Failure Indicator
Sounds like the typical bad ABS module.
You can have it rebuilt for about $100.00 through this site. http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/...vo_V70_ABS.htm |

Thanks!
What exactly does the module do and why does it go bad? Rob |
RE: Brake Failure Indicator
The module controls the ABS/Tracs system in the car. Solder joints go bad you can see in this post. It is from the 850 section but the module is pretty much the same. If you are really handy you can fix it yourself using that post.

RE: Brake Failure Indicator
Sounds like the car knows you are going to sell it and it is trying to tell you it wants to stick around <grin>

RE: Brake Failure Indicator
Tell me about it.
I have it scheduled for a timing belt replacement for $350 bucks and now it looks like the ABS module for another 350 with me installing it. Is there anyway to be 100% certain the module is bad before I spend the money? |
RE: Brake Failure Indicator
You can open it up and inspect it using the post I linked above.

RE: Brake Failure Indicator
Thanks,
I just noticed the link and printed all the information. I also called a local Volvo tech and he was 90% sure it's the module. Although he said that it is more rare for the 2002 and newer. That's the part that makes me nervous. But if you say I can open it up and look at it like the older units, I'll do it. I'm comfortable with a soldering gun. Thanks for all your help! |
RE: Brake Failure Indicator
Let me know how it goes.
