D.I.Y. timing belt replacement 2004
Greetings, I am interested in changing the timing belt on my 2004 xc70. I have 90,000 miles and it has to be close to time to do so. Just got quoted $900.00 for parts & labor. Probably not bad, but money is tight...
I have not worked on this car, but have experience in building overhead cam motorcycle engines & several small block chevy engines. My tools set is fairly complete with the exeption of anything specific to the volvo. I would appreciate feedback and or warnings on this. thanks in advance. |

It isn't all that bad. There is many posts on here where people have done the job.
You will be fine if you mark the cam pulleys before removing the belt. |
RE: D.I.Y. timing belt replacement 2004
I agree, it is not bad at all. I have done it to our XC70 and it took me about three hours, but I also changed the tensioner, pulleys, and the serpentine belt and tensioner at the same time. If you do a search there is a good write up on how to do it on this site, as well as matthewsvolvosite and bay 13

I was told that a timing belt for my 2004 Volvo CW70 would cost $2000.00. Is this correct?
