dtc 1171 and 1174

i recently pulled codes 1171 and 1174. i have not been able to find much info on either. i know 1171 is a "lean condition bank 1". i don't know anything about 1174.

can anybody shed any light on the cause and action(s) required for each? i will be checking vadis but have not had a chance.

thanks.

Try checking the Cam position sensor. Thats all I have for the 1174.
I can only find the translation at work. We have alldata there and it gives the translation.

thanks tech. i assumethe cam position sensor is located near the cam pulleys? is it accessible without removing the timing cover?

The cam position sensor is mounted on the back of the head.
You have to look closely to find it. The upper torque mount bracket on the back of the head hides it good.
There is a 10MM screw that holds the sensor in.
I had to just replace one the other day.
It was reading that the timing was way out. Saying the VVT was positioned wrong. But the sensor was reading wrong.

1171 corresponds to volvo code ecm-261a and 1174 corresponds to ecm-260a. these are both upper limit faults.

according to vadis, potential causes could be the following;

intake air leak
exhaust air leak
low fuel pressure
faulty heat o2 sensor

i will begin checking this weekend.
