Ice on window; regulator breaks
2005 XC70:
My daughter attempted to lower the right-front passenger window. There was apparently ice on the window; there was a loud "pop" and the window slumped down about an inch and no longer raises or lowers. I contacted the dealership and was told that"sheprobably didn't clean any ice off and broke the regulator". I said that must be a defect if just using the power button causes the mechanism to break. The service managersaid, "No," although he doesn't have a replacement regulator on hand because they are currently fixing two other cars with the same problem. Hmmm. I didn't press the issue right then, but using his logic, the window mechanismmust bedesigned to break if there is ice on the glass. And that, I doubt. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Had any luck getting Volvo to admit a problem and pick up the tab? If I'm stuck with this crap, how difficult is it to fix it myself? |
RE: Ice on window; regulator breaks
The loud pop leads me to believe that a clip gave way and the regulator is OK. Pull the panel off and give it a look.

RE: Ice on window; regulator breaks
Looks like you are right on. The blue plastic clip on the window rail next to the door latchhas broken and the sheet metal arm is free and has twisted slightly. The clipon the other end of the rail somehow managed to leave the rail entirely. Both are fixable. Thanks for the analysis.

RE: Ice on window; regulator breaks
Be very careful when trying it again with the new clips.
If the regulator bent to much it will happen again when you try the window. |
RE: Ice on window; regulator breaks
Fixed, works. $4 for the replacement clip.
