Just got a 2005 XC70 Cross Country...like new.

In 2005 I went to the Volvo dealership with my dad because we were picking up my mom's 60th birthday present. They took it off the showroom floor and my dad and I made the hour drive home to surprise my mom in the driveway...big red bow on top and everything. Well, she loved it, but because my dad did most of the driving on their trips, etc., it just stayed in the garage most of it's life. Since the day my dad and I drove it home, I always mentioned how much I like that car...and I still do.
Well, life happens and my mom passed away unexpectedly 4 months ago at the age of 74. Our family is handling it as any family would. We're doing our best...and we will be OK eventually.

Now back to the Volvo. This weekend I was visiting my dad and he wanted to stop somewhere on our way back to the house from shopping. It was a title company and he transferred the title to me, which was unexpected, but a very nice surprise. I just got it home and it's sitting in my garage. Like I said, it's a 2005 XC70 Cross Country with 54,000 miles and it as close to new as you can get for a 14 year old car. Not a dent or scratch. It always stayed in the garage so the dash is basically like new, as is the rest of the car. I don't think anyone has ever sat in the back seats and the rest of the interior is like new as well...the original floor mats don't have a single stain anywhere. My dad did change the headlight covers a couple of years ago because they hazed up, but other than routine maintenance and new tires, it has just sat there.

Here are a few pics. In the following weeks I have a few questions regarding safety and audio upgrades, leather treatment, etc. I am really excited to own this car for many reasons and look forward to continuing to pamper and enjoy it.

Thanks for looking.

Well, Looks like I'm not the only one to get a super low mileage xc70 lately! The white looks really good man, contrary to what alot of people say I really like the colour contrast on the interior too. Looks unique. Never seen one without headlamp washers before, must be a regional thing. Sorry about your mom btw. Never an easy thing.

I just bought one about a week ago from a lady who barely drove it. It's an 03 with about 48,000 kms. 79k kms. Found it on kijiji minutes after it was posted, Called right away and when I got there to see the car, her phone was ringing off the hook. Was in immaculate condition, she bought it herself from the dealer, she had trouble sentimatnally letting go of the car for a while. Was amazed when I seen the interior. Was like getting in a brand new car. Such a good find. I was looking at a 07 a week prior too and lost out on the sale, someone got it before I could. Now im glad cause I wouldn't have found this beauty. It's pretty old but I plan on taking as good a care of it as I can. Btw you should get your timing belt replaced asap if it's never been done. The rubber dries out and cracks over time. If the belt goes so does your head.

Should keep in touch, I'm really curious to see how an old super low mileage Volvo holds up. Alot of people will tell you to stay away from old low mileage cars, where they aren't properly broken in seals dry up etc. It'd be interesting to see how many years we can get out of em.

Wow. That is a beautiful exterior color. I've never seen a Volvo that color in the US. Even better is that dark brown leather interior...very, very nice. I will post a new pic of my interior tomorrow...I replaced the factory radio with something that has Bluetooth and a backup camera. My wife couldn't be happier.

I'm having a local mechanic go over my car next week. I'm changing/flushing the radiator, brakes, transmission oil and differential. I'll probably also change out the thermostat and air filters for good measure. A good inspection of all hoses and belts will be done too. I haven't made a decision on the timing belt, but I'm told that's something I should really consider too. My wife is making a 500 mile trip to a Florida beach with friends in a couple of weeks and I want to make sure the Volvo is good to go.

Just curious...does your Volvo have a distinctive and fairly strong odor in the cabin? Mine has a kind of chemical smell and I'm told it's from the car sitting so long closed up. Just curious if you have that same issue.

I'll post an update when everything is done.

Thanks.

That's a good idea. I'm planning to flush all my fluids aswell there's a good chance the coolant is the lrigional and same with the transmission. The haldex fluid and filter is something I'd like to change aswell curious if it's hard to do yourself.

Come to think of it there is a certain odor inside the car. I can't say it's really strong. It's a little hard to describe.. almost like a stringent nutty kind of a smell, not a pleasant odor but not a nice one either. I think if may be the leather or the dye's in the leather. Leather sweats over time. It could also be any of the interior plastics, carpet materials just from age, probably a combination from all of it. I have an 01 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon and there is a distinct odor in that car too that I can't pinpoint. A couple of days ago I went through the Volvo with autoglym leather cleaner and then conditioned it with maguires leather conditioner. The smell is definitly dissipated. But it's still there. Probabky a good idea to change the cabin air filter too.

I'm really curious to see what kind of head unit you bought. I was looking at some online that are made to fit into the dash and have nav, Bluetooth etc. but I have the hu-803 , Apparently from what I've read it's a little difficult to replace with an aftermarket unit as mine has an external amp, and a separate channel from the headunit for the centre speaker. Apparently you'll loose alot of sound quality too.
