SERVICE ISSUES
 

I just purchased a 2002 XC70 the other day. It had been maintained by a local Volvo dealer in PA(Bobby Rahal Volvo) on a regular basis. The lady owner before me told me it had no issues and was a great car.
So, with that said, is there ANYTHING I should look at or otherwise be aware of during my ownership of this great car?:eek: I am a car nut when it comes to maint. issues and if there is something else I can do to make the life of this car longer, I am willing to do that. It has 74K miles and just had its 75K maint. done early by the previous owner.
I do plan on using Royal Purple Syn oil from now on. Not sure about using K&N due to recent stories of the oil from K&N dirtying up the throttle body??????????

Drain and fill the transmission NOW with Mobil 3309, Toyota type 4 (also 3309) of if you want to spend a fortune
Volvo fluid (which also is 3309).
As long as the fluid is "3309"spec you're ok.
Drain and fill it again at the next oil change and you should be fine.

You MUST use the right fluid, your best bet is to buy the Toyota fluid and save money

The previous owner just had some type of tranny module replaced. Wonder if they would have drained the fluid to do that service? Also, why is that important to drain now and then do it again at next oil change? Have there been problems associated with tranny's going bad due to old/dirty fluid? Is it as simple as a drain plug on the pan and refilling with the spec's fluid you mention? Thanks for the input.

Definitely drain and refill the transmission fluid. These cars can be sensitive to clean fluid. Do a quick search on transmission issues and you can find out all you need to know (and then some).
